Why should I write a book? Here are five reasons
Maybe people have been telling you for a while that you should write a book. Maybe this book would be about your amazing story, your journey from rags to riches. Or maybe this book would contain your thoughts and ideas or your lessons to others about business or life.
Regardless of the kind of book, for some reason, others keep asking you to write a book.
And yet, you aren’t so sure. You aren’t sure you want to write a book. Writing is hard, and you have enough hard things to do on your to do list already.
If this sounds like you, then read on for five good reasons you probably should write a book
Reason #1: You have a story that should be told.
As each person’s life is unique, so each person’s story is unique. Everyone has something they can teach others. Your experiences, though old to you, are new to the person reading them. You can make a book come alive with your story well told.
Only you have walked your path, and only you can tell your story in your own voice.
In the end, you only live once, so if you have a story to tell, tell it.
Reason #2. You have vital information to share.
You know stuff. In fact, you probably know something most people don’t. Whether this knowledge is technical, emotional, or economical, it is valuable to someone.
If you spent a life learning a craft, share that knowledge. If you know the ins and outs of how to sell, how to fix machinery, how to sing, how to make friends, how to do anything, you owe it to the world to share that information. Maybe you know how to help parents of autistic children cope, or maybe you have the inside track on how to save the environment. Either way, write that book!
Don’t let your information disappear with you when you finally leave this mortal existence.
Reason #3. Writing a book is a unique experience.
Writing a book is a once in a lifetime experience, like no other. No other activity can help you discover what you truly think and what your story really means like writing a book. And though no other way can you influence as many people as deeply as through a well-written book.
Find out what it feels like to be an author, and write your book.
Reason #4. You need to make a splash.
Writing a book is a great way to spread the word about yourself, your business, or your endeavors. And once you have written your book, others now regard you as an industry expert. You’ll be invited to speak and present and you may even be interviewed on a television news show. Because when someone needs to call on an expert in an area, they almost always choose the person who wrote a book over someone who didn’t.
And with a book with your name on it, you now have a calling card that never gets old. You are the expert, and people will start treating you that way.
There is still almost no better way to leave an impact, make a difference, and make your presence known than through a well-written book.
Reason #5. You want to make a difference.
The most important reason to write a book, perhaps, is to make a difference in the world.
Besides having family and children, few things we accomplish live beyond us. Even great buildings get torn down eventually. But books, especially good books, can live on through the ages.
If your book truly helps others and makes a difference, it can live on long after you are gone, helping others. Whether that help is practical, spiritual, or emotional, you can influence others through your words for a long time to come.
There’s no bones about it: writing is hard work, even for so-called writers. But if you want to leave the world a little better than you found it, write a book that shares your wisdom, your experiences, and your knowledge.
You owe it to the next generation.
With computers, the Internet, and the proliferation of professional ghostwriters (like myself) who can help you take your thoughts and experiences and put them into a book, there has never been an easier time than now to write a book, and make a difference.
So, what are you waiting for? Make a difference by writing your book!
